Modbus
Modbus is an open communications protocol, originally published by Modicon in 1979 for use with its programmable logic controllers (PLCs) via serial data links. It has become a de facto standard communication protocol for connecting industrial electronic devices. The standard is simple, robust, openly published, and royalty-free.

The development and update of Modbus protocols is now managed by the Modbus Organization, a trade association composed of independent users and suppliers of Modbus compliant devices. Their stated objective is to drive the adoption of the Modbus communication protocol suite, and its evolution to address architectures for distributed automation systems across multiple market segments.

Modbus has long been the popular communications protocol for energy management systems and many other applications. It is most often used over RS-485 serial links (most often know as Modbus RTU), however an Ethernet implementation, Modbus TCP is available as well. Most Veris energy metering products support Modbus RTU. Some other Veris products support either Modbus RTU (over an RS-485 serial link) or Modbus TCP (over Ethernet).

Modbus Software:

      A new software program useful in setting up ALL E3x series Panelboard Monitoring Systems, including the latest models & features
    • E50C3 Logging Demonstration Software
      This program demonstrates communication and logging features for the E50C3 as well as raw protocol data. An RS-485 to RS-232 converter must be used to connect the E50C3 to a serial port. A converter is available from Veris as part number AH07.
  • Legacy Software:
    • E3x Configuration Tool
      An older software program used in setting up E3xA/B/C series Panelboard Monitoring Systems with firmware prior to V1.023. This tool does not support the E3xE models or new features added to E3x Firmware as of April, 2014 (V1.023 and above).
    • MNode
      This program provides an easy-to-use means of configuring H8238 & H704-42 Products. This program replaces PNode.
    • ENode
      This program, provides an easy-to-use way to display raw Modbus protocol data from Enercept Modbus meters. The current version, V2.3, includes E50 support, a "scan" function and better error views. An RS-485 to RS-232 converter must be used to connect the power meters to a serial port. A converter is available from Veris as part number AH07.
